Welcome to Lady Rebecca Fashions!
Here, I share all things costuming. Every Tuesday at 12pm PST, I release my weekly sewing vlog, filled with all the projects I worked on in the previous week. And on Saturday morning at 12am PST, I release another video on other sewing content - mostly historical, but with some cosplay, historybounding, and Disneybounding thrown in for good measure. Once a month, the Saturday video takes a close, in-depth look at an antique garment in my collection.
Please subscribe to make sure you don't miss out!
About me: I started my historical costuming journey in 2010. I had previously done theatrical costuming and attended some Ren faires, but I fell in love with the 18th c and Victorian costuming, in particular. Nowadays, I'm big on Victorian (especially bustles!), the 1830's, and the Edwardian era. I sew constantly, and love to share my sewing adventures! You can also follow my adventures on instagram @ladyrebeccafashions.
Thanks for watching!

Come with me to Costume College 2024!
It's once again time for my annual trip to Costume College! Costume College is a wonderful conference/convention in Los Angeles with tons of workshops, lectures, and dress-up events all to do with costuming, with a special focus on historical costuming, and this is my 12th year attending.

It really is a shame that no movie or tv show has tried to tackle the English Regency Court Gown. Because they are so wonderfully ridiculous. This week, I'm finishing the bodice and sleeves, styling my 1790s wig, and creating the various parts of the 1790s court gown headdress, in anticipation of finishing my court gown. I'm making the most ridiculous historical fashion ever -- an English Regency Court Gown
Просмотров 11 тыс.2 месяца назад
Let's be honest, it was bound to happen eventually. I have been fascinated with English Regency court gowns for a while, and when Costume College announced that this year's gala theme was Bridgerton, I knew I had to show up in the one truly ridiculous fashion moment that Bridgerton woefully ignored English Regency court gowns. Awesome Costumer Haul! Fabric, Antiques, Gifts, and more!
Your costumes looked so beautiful, the finished dress for the ship boarding was amazing. Looked like you all had a great time. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your journey at Costume College for this year. Loved your little Regency Court Dress play with the others, very cute. Hey loved your hair at the end with the blue dress, the style suits you. Funny you mention about the face blindness, I tend not to recognise people when I see them in modern day clothes, seeing I tend to only see them only in costume.
That was so much fun! Thanks for taking us!
If I ever win the lotto I want to go to costume college!! Wish we had something like in Australia!!
I would love to have your skills. You make the most beautiful dresses.
I’d probably do Belle’s ball gown from the animated Beauty and the Beast if I had access to $10/yd silk.
Oooooo, I love that the digitizing embroidery class was using Inkstitch. I just got an embroidery machine about a month ago now and have been learning Inkstitch. Project Anonymous has some great tutorials on it. I find it fairly straight forward, but I've also worked with a bunch of programs in a similar vein. I can see it being fairly overwhelming for someone completely new. I also heavily suggest adding shortcuts for Stack up, stack down, path simplify, path combine, path separate, param test, lettering, lettering to path, simulare, and custom font. Hope you have fun using it (after the first like 3 projects) ^^
Yay! I love your CC videos!!!
Thanks for helping me film! ☺️
The Orange Worth hoop dress would be my pick for silk. I might be able to go to Costume College next year, too!
I love your costume, and it inspired me to look for the book. Sadly, my huge regional library doesn't have "Miss Pettigrew..." Grrr. Unrelated: I'd never heard of face blindness until the hysterical "Trial & Error". Sherri Shepherd's role is a face blind member of a legal team. Her comedic genius shines, along with John Lithgow and all the rest. Worth a watch IMHO, even for people without face blindness.
It was so validating to see that show and know it was a thing! (Though I don't think I'm that bad). It looks like Miss Pettigrew may be available to rent on Amazon.
Those court gowns are contraptions! (I don't know I just mean the shape just keeps making me laugh)
I really wish that I could have stayed and hung out with all the court dress folks!
Thank you for sharing your Costume college adventures!
Thanks for posting so much about Costume College! It was super interesting.
10/y silk.... probably another robe a la francaise... cause... obviously I need more of them 😅
That's what I'm doing with mine! ☺️
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Yaaasssss
You looked so beautiful for this year's costume college. It looked like great fun for the sewist.
Thanks! It was a lot of fun. ☺️
That Bridgerton court bit was hilarious! Loved all the court gowns!
Thank you so much for the trip to Costume College. You and all the court ladies looked fabulous.
All your outfits were just gorgeous! All of you with your court gowns were wonderfully ridiculous in the best way possible.
Thanks! It was a fun group.
Loved that Rebecca. Not likely ever to get to costume collage, but with 10 dollar a yard silk it would have to be something Victorian.
thanks for sharing, looked like a lot of fun!
Musical costumes...Mary Poppins: Mrs Banks, Sister Suffragette. Greatest Showman: Jenny Lind, Never Enough. Kiss Me Kate: Kate's blue wedding dress, Lilli Vanessi, grey/pink suit & fabulous coat/wrap. Cosplay/wearable: Sound of Music: Maria, orange carriage dirndl or Something Good. Phantom of the Opera: Anything, EVERYTHING...Carlotta, pink day dress!!! ❤❤❤
What are the long stripey things everyone seems to have?
They collect ribbons on their badge, either by doing class or meeting people that gave them.
Yep, they're badge ribbons. You get some from the organizers, and a lot of people bring them to give to other people.
All the debutantes turned their back on the queen! They need to go back to finishing school!
Had a moment where I thought I was going mad, I'd installed Sims 3 just before loading your video and the first thing I always do, when loading it, is mute the music...and then when your music started, between talking, I was like...I did mute it...right? 😅
Is the music similar?
@@LadyRebeccaFashions Mhmm, almost exactly like the loading screen music
It’s so beautiful ❤❤
Unfortunately, I live in the deep, deep south. Silk? It's cotton or linen, I'm afraid. Everything will need washed frequently. Just stepping outside drenches you in sweat. But there are some lovely cottons!
This is a wonderful video! I love your costume college videos! I am a little leary of going as I don't see any men in your costume college videos. Do men attend? I suggest you make, as your movie musical costume, Judy Garlands blue tassel dress or her white finale or the red velvet dress from the Christmas party from Meet Me In St. Louis. Another great one is Judy's Traveling suit in the beginning from the Harvey Girls. Just suggestions. I know whatever you make will be stunning and brilliant!
Ooh yes, those Meet me in St Louis dresses are iconic! And yes, some men do attend, but not many - tbh, I probably saw less than 10-15 attending this year, but men are definitely welcome!
If I had $10 silk, I would make (or try to make) Felicity's blue Christmas gown. It's always been one of my favourite dresses of hers. Where did you learn how to sew so well? Your work is incredible!
Thanks! It's just been a lot of trial and error and practice over the years. And unfortunately none of those places have royal blue silk (which is why I wound up making mine out of poly!)
I didn't realize Yosa was such a wonderful singer! Sad I missed your Sleepy Hallows dress. I came down after you left. Kitty and the other sweet poodle, Birdie, were adorable when they saw each other. Poodles know other poodles.
Oh darn! I was chilling in the lobby till after the Friday event ended!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions I honestly don't even remember what I was doing after the event ended on Friday night. I did catch a glimpse of you. I pointed your dress out to my mom. I was dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. Of course, Kitty was my huge Toto. Several people saw me with her when I took her out to potty and remarked how Toto had grown since the movie 😆
I'm pretty sure this was Mark Edwards 3rd year at Costume College. This was my third year and he was there the first year I went.
Oh, you're totally right!
OMG Deborah Kerr's gold dress from THE KING AND I.......boy you would knock that out of the park!!
Thank you for this, Rebecca. It's about all this introvert could handle of Costume College.❤
So many really good costumes but the Ken one 😂
I'm glad you had fun at Costume College. :) If we ever meet in person, I can assure you that I tend to keep my appearance consistent, almost to the level of a cartoon character. I guess it also helps that I have a... unique style. Basically, if you ever meet a brunette girl who has long, wavy hair with side-swept bangs, bow barrettes, thick-framed glasses, and a casual goth outfit, it is likely yours truly.
Wonderful!! Loved seeing the court gowns and all the costume college footage. Fun!! You looked super!!!😍😍❤
Thanks! ☺️
You might consider Angela Landsbury's dresses from 'harvey girls' or some of the costumes from Meet me in St Louis 1944 just a few ideas. I like that 1900 - 1920 era, weirdo that I am, Hate the 20's and 30's era styles. anyway my 2 cents.
I have actually thought about some of the Meet Me in St Louis costumes! Iconic!
I LOVED all your costumes!! You looked great!! 😍 Costume college looks like it would be sooo much FUN!! Maybe one year I'll get to go!! 🙂
Thanks! I hope you get to!
@@LadyRebeccaFashions You're welcome! I hope so too! 🙂
I cannot tell you how much I’ve been looking forward to this video! It did not disappoint. When I saw it was almost an hour I startled my cat when I said YES!, lol, after seeing that. Some of those costumes were so lovely. I think my favorite was that woman who had on that men’s breeches and coat. I’m glad you had a better time this year and a great time with your friends. Very much looking forward to the haul and updated projects video as well as the finished court gown video. I thought that skit y’all did with Queen Charlotte was hilarious. I suppose she did not find a Diamond, but each and every one of you knocked it put of the park! Such a unique take. Hollywood should take a cue from y’all and create period accurate regency court gowns, imho. Thanks for taking us along. It was quite a treat!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Kristen was a good sport for humoring us as Queen Charlotte!
Had a great time even though it was my first year. Love your videos and follow you regularly. I bought lots of $10 silk. My first project EVER with silk will be one I will wear next year CoCo 2025.
I'm glad you had fun, and good luck with your silk project! That's exciting ☺️
@@LadyRebeccaFashions thanks hope to see you next year and what fashion you come up with❣️
You Regency court gown ladies were cute and hilarious, especially when making your curtsies to the queen.
Let me know if you want pictures of the other side of the Edith dress. I asked and got permission to go around the other side. That sash of beads at the lowered waist is the wing of a humming bird!
I asked the same thing about the Delysia dress!
Thanks for bringing us along - there's nothing quite like it! It make sense to show your fabric haul with your future plans and I'm looking forward to that!
Can't wait for the haul video!
What a great time everyone looked to be having! The fabric district looks amazing! Thanks for taking us along
💜💜💜💜
The blue chiffon "Sisters" dresses from White Christmas are one of my dream makes. I'm just super intimidated by chiffon.
Single knot best for hairline the most realistic, double knot for strength. I don’t like split knots because directionality. Blonde hair is ideal to hide the knots. Dark hair the knots are more noticeable if you are going for realism so people tend to bleach the knots.
It looks like you had fun! I remember last year was not as great, so I'm glad you enjoyed yourself! Also... as an aside... your hair 52:05 looks SO CUTE here! Your costumes are lovely and I'm looking forward to seeing your shopping haul!
What a fun time. All of those amazing costumes.
